HIRING DEPARTMENT CHECKLIST

  If your new employee is benefit eligible, be sure he/she reads carefully the Summary of Benefits offered in the online orientation presentation.  The benefits portion of the presentation includes plan details and enrollment forms.  Contact Benefits (706-721-3770) if you have any questions
  Answer questions about employment paperwork and the policies covered in the online orientation presentation.  Contact Employment (706-721-0961) if you have any questions.
  If your new employee will park his/her car on the campus, obtain a parking packet from Parking Services (706-721-2953) and give to the new hire.  Provide all necessary information so the new employee can immediately obtain an appropriate parking permit.
  Provide to your new hire necessary information so he/she can complete online orientation, including the department name and whether or not the employee is benefit eligible.  You may wish to print a flyer of instructions to give to new hires.
  Introduce new employee to staff.  Provide an organizational chart.  Tour the work area.  Describe the primary purpose of the unit.
  Obtain an e-mail account, if applicable, and discuss appropriate use of e-mail.
  Discuss safety concerns in your work area.  Instruct new hire to complete the online New Employee Safety Training at www.mcg.edu/???
  Discuss working hours, lunch/break times, inclement weather procedures, and work attire.
  Discuss pay schedule, overtime and comp time, and leave procedures.
  Discuss probationary period, performance appraisals, and the job description.
  Encourage the new employee to come to you for information and assistance.
